Erdoğan calls Macron to congratulate him over election victory

Thousands of flag-waving supporters gave Emmanuel Macron a rapturous welcome as he strode into the courtyard of the Louvre museum to the strains of the French national anthem after his decisive election victory. "Tonight, France won", he cried to the crowds who yelled with joy.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg congratulated Macron via a message on his Twitter. Nearly all the leaders have expressed their desire to take bilateral ties between their respective countries with France to a new level. In a tweet Sunday, Trump says he's looking forward to working with Macron, but did not immediately extend an invitation for him to visit the White House.

"Congratulations @EmmanuelMacron! Let's meet soon, and keep working to grow & strengthen the deep ties between Canada and France", Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades wrote on his Facebook in French that Macron's victory was an important one for Europe and congratulated the president-elect.

We congratulate Macron on his victory for it signifies a win over an onslaught on liberal, progressive and secular values for which France has stood for and which has set the basic standards of a democratic world.
