Senator Joseph Griffo is joining the State Senate in passing legislation that would help crack down on the rise of gang violence in NY.

"This legislation has now passed the Senate five times, but has yet to be passed by the Assembly".

Senator Golden said, "As a former New York City Police Officer, I know firsthand that the presence of gangs on the streets of New York have, and continue to, destroy communities, destroy schools, and destroy families".

The Republican-led Senate approved a bill Monday to increase penalties for crimes connected to street gangs and create new crimes for gang involvement.

Heastie insisted longer prison sentences are not the answer. This legislation is an aggressive, comprehensive approach that will help put violent gang members behind bars and keep children from joining these gangs in the first place.

Philippines' Duterte visits Chinese warships in home town
Philippine Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said the Duterte administration wanted to maintain positive relations with more countries. It welcomed the progress to complete a framework of the code of conduct in the South China Sea by mid-2017.

In fact, the bill offers anti-gang initiatives at the front end. Penalties are increased and new felonies are created for individuals who benefit from gang activity, participate in gang activity, and recruit youth or adults to participate in gang activities. The proposal would lengthen the prison term for felonies committed during gang activity and create a gang-prevention curriculum in NY classrooms, as well as provide funding for non-profit community outreach.

- The link between the brutal murders of 11 victims and the MS-13 gang has captured the attention of President Donald Trump. José Peralta (D-Queens), even though MS-13 members stabbed a man leaving a check-cashing business in his district on Saturday.

"The governor takes the scourge of gang violence very seriously and has deployed additional state troopers and resources across the state to combat it head on", said Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi.

Sen. Martin Golden (R-Brooklyn), author of the bill, dismissed criticism of it by pointing out that a defendant would have to be charged with three gang-related crimes within three years to be prosecuted as a gang banger.
