United Kingdom ministers accuse Brussels of trying to 'bully' Britain over Brexit

United Kingdom ministers accuse Brussels of trying to 'bully' Britain over Brexit United Kingdom ministers accuse Brussels of trying to 'bully' Britain over Brexit

European Council President Donald Tusk warned Thursday (4 May) that Brexit talks could become "impossible" if London and Brussels fail to calm a bitter war of words over the negotiations.

"At stake are the daily lives and interests of millions of people on both sides of the Channel", he added in a second tweet.

It follows the commission leaking a scathing account of Juncker's meeting with May to the German press and the prime minister claiming European Union officials were trying to influence the general election.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker drew laughs at the start of the conference by announcing that he would speak in French because "slowly but surely English is losing importance in Europe".

The German Chancellor believes Mr Juncker or his chief of staff Martin Selmayr briefed journalists about the private conversation with Mrs May and accused them of "fuelling the flames" before Brexit talks have even got under way.

But the proximity of the general election and the increasingly hostile atmosphere between London and Brussels over the Brexit negotiations overshadowed Thursday s polls. The EU is "trying to bully the British people", Davis told an audience at BBC Question Time.

The president of the European parliament, Antonio Tajani, told the Florence conference that no one was looking to undermine May, who says she called the snap election to strengthen her hand in the Brexit negotiations.

Navy SEAL killed in Somalia identified
On April 6, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed declared war on al-Shabab but at the same time offered the militants amnesty. The troops did not call in a defensive airstrike, he said, adding "the attackers were quickly neutralized on the ground".

She said: "If we can't find any agreement, we are falling out as badly as this when negotiations haven't even begun, I think think people ought to be profoundly anxious". Juncker called it "excellent", though he noted: "I have the impression sometimes that our British friends. underestimate the technical difficulties we have to face".

It said some members of Mrs May's Government "fear that Merkel and Juncker want Brexit to be a disaster for Britain for educational reasons: all Eurosceptics on the Continent should be shown the dire consequences of their dissidence".

Criticised on the Brexit in recent days, British Prime Minister Theresa May counter-attacked on Wednesday accusing "European officials" of wanting to interfere in the British legislative elections and not wanting the success of the Brexit.

Mr Juncker reportedly said he was leaving "10 times more sceptical than I was before".

Some might say if they get a good deal then my country would want to get out of the European Union as well, and other people just want to punish the UK.

The prime minister has styled herself as offering the most stable leadership to take Britain through two years of tough Brexit negotiations, and she took aim at Brussels on the eve of the local elections.

"The displays that we've seen over the last 48 hours have been very worrying, suggesting quite an unstable approach taken by the prime minister", she said. So, in a nutshell, we are very busy.
