Star grappler Sakshi Malik bagged a silver medal for India in the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championship after losing to Japan's Risako Kawai in women's 60kg category here today.

After nearly spending a year in hibernation, Rio Games bronze medallist Sakshi Malik has entered the final of the Asian Championship. The 24-year-old wrestler got hold of Nabira Esenbaeva of Uzbekistan 6-2 in the quarter-final and then smacked Ayaulym Kassymova 15-3 in her semi-final to make a cake-walk into the finals. Sakshi won her Olympics medal in the 58kg category, but die to overweight changed her category in this competition.

India had bagged a total of nine medals including a gold, three silver and five bronze when the tournament was held in Bangkok, Thailand past year.

Earlier, Ritu had defeated Narangerel Erdenesukh of Mongolia in the qualification round 11-4 before defeating Yeo-Jin Kim of Korea in her quarterfinal bout.

Pinki was the only Indian wrestler to bow out without a medal.
