Understanding health care changes under new GOP plan

Gov. Bruce Rauner speaks in the Illinois House chamber in Springfield Ill. In Illinois a state that expanded coverage under former President Obama’s Affordable Care Act Rauner says he will push senators to Understanding health care changes under new GOP plan

Ever since March 23, 2010, when a Democratic Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare, Republicans in the House have been itching to get rid of it. Young and healthy people could finally afford to enter the market, and prices stabilized even further. This is an act of deliberate betrayal: Everything about Trumpcare is specifically created to do exactly the opposite of what Trump, Paul Ryan and other Republicans said it would. Her state is among the 31 that has accepted additional money to expand Medicaid under Obama's law. "It seems to me they've already made their decision".

Sen. Roy Blunt (Mo.): "I think what's happened is not dead on arrival, not taking the House bill and bringing it immediately to the floor, but taking what the House was able to do, looking at that carefully, and coming up with what the Senate thinks the Senate can do". A waiver would allow insurance companies to consider a person's health status when determining what to charge for coverage.

The Republicans were given a gift by Trump's campaign, a grace they did not merit: the gift of freedom from the trap of dogma, from the pre-existing condition of zombie Reaganism, from an agenda out of touch with the concerns of their actual constituents.

As soon as Trump was elected, state officials were on notice that changes were likely. It starts meeting this month to consider how the state might respond.

No government estimates have been released showing how much it would cost the states to keep the expansion and pay for it on their own.

House Speaker Paul Ryan rushed the bill through the House before the Congressional Budget Office would tell lawmakers what it would cost.

By changing to a per capita cap rather than the current method in which the federal government supplies funds based on the number and needs of the enrollees, experts studying Medicaid and mental health are concerned that there could be a lack of funds to help people with substance abuse issues. But it also said implementing those changes by 2020 gives states little time to figure out what to do.

The other factor is an expected analysis by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office of how many million Americans would lose their health insurance coverage under the House bill, if it became law, and how it would affect the USA budget deficit. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said such cuts would reduce support for hospitals, nursing homes and 7 million New Yorkers who rely on the program.

Democrats derided the bill, although they have yet to offer potential fixes to Obamacare, apparently a sacred party scroll despite being rife with shortcomings. On top of that, under Obamacare, large businesses are prohibited from capping how much they will shell out for employees' essential benefit expenses, annually and throughout their lifetimes.

Look forward to some really progressive views on women's health care. Republicans rushed to vote Thursday on the final bill before the CBO had a chance to score it, doubtless fearing the projected decimation could be worse. The ACHA rolls back a key Affordable Care Act provision that required businesses with 50 or more employees to provide health insurance to employees working 30 hours or more a week. That's roughly 712,000 people.

Thanks to the Electoral College, as Dems learned the hard way in 2000 and previous year, Republican votes spread out across more important swing states than Democratic votes.

However, the GOP bill also has an enormous loophole in that regard.

She said she'd spent 15 minutes at Tuesday's Senate GOP lunch describing a high-risk pool ME uses to help cover costs for people with serious diseases who are expensive to treat.

If you are, for example, 40 years old and your pre-existing condition is asthma, expect your insurance premiums to go up by $4,300 per year.

"Why don't you want everyone to have healthcare?"

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, one of the most moderate Democrats in the Senate, said his state "gets absolutely slammed" in the House bill because it has a lot of elderly residents and people with pre-existing conditions.

People don't want to run out of insurance coverage.

"It is deeply disappointing that the voices of those who will be most severely impacted were not heeded", said Bishop Frank Dewane of Venice, Fl.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, a Democrat, is resolute on that issue: "I would not entertain that notion", he said.
