Amandla Stenberg Directed and Edited Her New Music Video

Freda Brock | 13 May, 2017, 20:48

Amandla Stenberg is following in the long line of former child stars who are forging a second career as a musician, but unsurprisingly Stenberg doesn't do anything quite like the teen idol predecessors of eras past. The soundtrack also boasts cuts from BADBADNOTGOOD featuring Charlotte Day Wilson, Francis and the Lights, Alabama Shakes, Zedd featuring Alessia Cara, Anderson.Paak, Kehlani and DeMarco's original version of "Let My Baby Stay". Looks like we truly are getting everything from the 18-year-old performer. Then they dropped the complete music video, which they directed and edited theirself, on Vevo at midnight. No word on how far she hopes to take her music efforts, but this track was recorded for the soundtrack of her upcoming movie Everything, Everything.

The message is fairly straightforward: obsessive phone use inhibits you from fully engaging with the world. In the video, Stenberg dances in a hazy, Technicolor, "Hotline Bling"-reminiscent room". She is an island of presence among her zombie-like peers. (Like we said, none too subtle.) The setup is simple yet striking, and the extras, though static, are stylish AF.
