Prosecutors say a suspect in the killings of two engaged doctors in their luxury Boston condominium did not open fire on police before he was shot by officers, but a fake gun was found at the scene.

Teixeira was born in Guinea-Bissau and raised in Cape Verde, the Boston Globe reported. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Authorities said that friend called police on Friday night, and responding officers found the bodies of Dr. Lina Bolanos and Dr. Richard Field, along with a black backpack filled with jewelry, prosecutors said at suspect Bampumim Teixeira's arraignment. Officers found both of them in the Boston apartment Friday night with their hands bound. According to officers the newspaper spoke to, pictures of the couple had been cut up and the killer left a message of retribution on the wall.

"The caller stated that another party had alerted him to a text requesting police notification for a "serious situation" with a gunman in the victims' apartment", prosecutors said.

Police Commissioner William Evans also said they "believe clearly" that murderer and victims knew each other, according to the Boston Globe.

Bampumim Teixeira was arraigned May 8 while he remained in a hospital bed at Tufts Medical Center.

Shortly after sunset, Boston police responded to the call about an armed and risky male suspect in District C-6.

"Dr. Bolanos was an outstanding pediatric anesthesiologist and a wonderful colleague in the prime of both her career and life", John Fernandez, President and CEO of Massachusetts Eye and Ear said in a statement.

Teixeira reportedly kept his eyes closed throughout the proceeding but nodded at the end and said, "Thank you".

"Dr. Field was noted for his tireless devotion to his patients, staff and colleagues", the practice said. A key is required for the elevator to reach their home on the 11th floor. The friend had received a text message from doctor Richard Field, who lived in the apartment with his fiancee, doctor Lina Bolanos.

Bolanos, 38, was a pediatric anesthesiologist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear.

"There is no evidence at this stage of the investigation that there is any relationship between them", Conley said.

Teixeira was sentenced to serve nine months in the Suffolk County House of Correction last year, a sentence he completed earlier this year, according to records. The suspect was shot in his stomach, hand and leg, but he did not die. "I said, 'Will you pray with me?' He said, 'Of course I will'".

On a sunny morning in late August, a man wearing a beige scally cap walked up to a teller at the Citizens Bank branch on Summer Street in Downtown Crossing and ordered the bank employee to listen carefully, authorities said. Dr Field (49), also an anaesthetist, worked at North Shore Pain Management.

The Boston Police Department referred TheDCNF to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office for comment, and it has not yet reached back. His next hearing is set for 8 June.

A Facebook page called "Remembering Richard Field" said he was from London.

"His tragic and sudden passing leaves an inescapable void in all of us", a statement on the clinic's website read, calling Field "a tremendous advocate for his patients".
