This time, he had visited the area near Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir from where the mutilated bodies of Border Security Force constable Prem Sagar and armyman Paramjit Singh were recovered on Monday morning.

Replying to questions about India's possible response to the killing of two soldiers and mutilation of their bodies by Pakistan Army, Gen Rawat parried a direct answer. Slamming Pakistan's demand for "actionable evidence", India said it had sufficient evidence to prove the Pakistani officials had crossed the LoC and committed this inhuman act.

"Indian counterpart was told that there has been no ceasefire violations from Pakistan side nor mutilation of Indian soldiers' bodies".

According to India, the two soldiers were killed in an attack following artillery fire from Pakistani posts near the village of Battal which struck along the LOC.

Basit denied the Pakistan Army "was involved in any way" but said he would convey the contents of India's demarche to his government, Baglay told a news briefing. "However, any misadventure shall be appropriately responded to at a place and time of own choosing".

He said considering the nation's mood, the government must take swift and solid action against Pakistan. On May 2, Union Defence Ministry Arun Jaitley warned Pakistan, saying such attacks do not even take place during war.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said "provocative statements" by India will further vitiate the regional environment.

"I condemn the mutilation of Indian soldiers by Pakistan; it is certainly very tragic not just for the jawans family but country too".

The MEA added, "We have shared this information with Pakistan High Commission".

The evidence was in the form of collected blood samples of the slain personnel and a blood trail that clearly showed that Pakistani soldiers returned beyond the LoC after committing the crime.
