Liverpool are on the verge of signing Gremio star Luan for a deal thought to be worth around £26m and the club are confident of landing him.

A local journalist based at Porto Alegre, however, claims that Liverpool have had a bid accepted by the club's President as of May 6, with the club holding out on the sale until after the conclusion of the Copa Libertadores.

Luan was involved in the Brazilian team that won Olympic gold in Rio alongside Man City's Gabriel Jesus.

Such an early move would signal Jurgen Klopp's intent to bolster his squad ahead of next season, though the defensive situation surely takes priority.

Who is Jurgen Klopp tipped to sign this summer?

Klopp hopes that his arrival will encourage fellow countryman Philippe Coutinho to stay at Anfield, as Luan looks set to team up with his Brazilian counterparts.

Garcetti said Trump voiced his support for the bid during a phone call in December. "We didn't go out of our way to show a city that's any different than the city we know".

Luan impressed in the Olympics scoring a wonder goal in the quarter-finals and scoring again in the semis followed by a converted penalty in the gold medal match shootout.

Luan is reportedly close to joining Liverpool.

Luan's advisor Jair Peixoto and agent Gianni Losito flew to the United Kingdom for talks last month.

Klopp believes he is now closing in on a £26m deal for the player described as the "new Ronaldinho", which could be sealed if Liverpool secure a top-four finish in the Premier League in order to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The attacker scored 12 goals in 54 appearances in all competitions for Gremio last season and he if can make a similar impact to the one that both Coutinho and Firmino have made at Anfield, then he will certainly be a good addition.
