Gabriel Taye, 8, hanged himself on January 26, two days after an incident was caught on camera in the school's restroom.
According to her attorneys, Reynolds didn't learn of the bullying until the attorneys received a copy of a police investigative file that contained an email from a homicide detective to school officials describing the surveillance video.
School officials have said they chose to share the video with police even though the connection between the incident and the boy's death remains unclear.
In the video, Gabriel is seen walking into a restroom at Carson Elementary School when he encounters another student. As ABC News reports, immediately after he walks into the bathroom, Gabriel appears to shake hands with a fellow student before falling to the ground and remaining there, unmoving, for nearly eight minutes.
Gabriel remained unconscious as students stepped over his body, pointed at, nudged and kicked him for about five minutes before an assistant principal entered the bathroom and found him.
And then, on Thursday, Hamilton County Coroner Lakshmi Sammarco announced on a local radio station that her office would be reopening the investigation into the 8-year-old's death.
The young boy can be seen lying unconscious on the floor as other pupils walk by him. Gabriel stayed home from school the next day but went back on January 26.
The school claims that the video does not support "allegations portrayed in the media".
"I just think it needs to stop, and something needs to be done", she said. "If she had known he had lost consciousness for over 7 minutes, that is a critical detail for a medical professional to know", she said. I am my son's voice and it will be heard.
Reynolds' attorneys also have viewed the video. The detective told school officials that while he had concerns about the bullying, which could be considered a criminal assault, he added that the school would be better suited to handle the situation because of the children's ages. Once at the hospital a doctor diagnosed Gabriel with a stomach virus and sent him home with his mother, reports the Chicago Tribune.
The Hamilton County coroner wants a full police investigation into whether an 8-year-old boy's suicide resulted from possible bullying at school and should be ruled a homicide. "His vitals are fine, he's fine and she made a decision to come to the school to get him to make sure he was okay and she took him home", the mother's attorney, Jennifer Branch, said.
When Reynolds picked up her son from school and took him to the hospital, he complained of stomach hurt and vomited.
Branch, working on behalf of Gabe's mother, said the video shows another student slamming Gabe against a bathroom wall.

"Their investigation has concluded and no charges were filed", school officials said.
When Cornelia Reynolds asked her son what was wrong and what happened at school he said he didn't know.
