Kayla Schwartz | 14 May, 2017, 23:30

For those of us who are Mac users anyway, yesterday saw the release of Visual Studio for Mac. The real story is, as always. slightly more complicated. but even so things have changed. Developers can download the new Visual Studio for Mac here.

A new Managed Instance private preview, which offers customers SQL Server instance-level compatibility and makes it even easier for organizations to migrate existing SQL Server apps to Azure SQL Database. Now when you run Visual Studio you are confronted with a range of technologies that makes it hard to believer that the "only ways" are being adequately served.

Visual Studio for Mac is not a port of Visual Studio for Windows; it's a rebranded version of Xamarin Studio integrated development environment (IDE) that will work on the Mac (Microsoft bought mobile-tool vendor Xamarin in February 2016). This sounds like an about face in Microsoft's attitude to the enemy, and indeed it is, but it isn't quite the whole story.

Bringing its IDE to macOS is a big milestone for Microsoft, given that the company once made a point of locking in developers by only offering its tools on Windows.

In an interview with Jeanine Pirro on Fox News, Trump declined to comment on whether he has listening devices in the White House. Issuing provocative statements to disrupt and reset a bad narrative has been a go-to tactic for Trump in business and politics.

Visual Studio 2017 arrived on Windows back in March, and has been available for macOS users in Preview since November previous year. Now there is a community edition, like the community edition of Visual Studio 2017, and Professional and Enterprise editions which are subscription services. There are other purchase ,. In terms of programming languages, C# and F# are supported. This means that the Mac is no longer needed for that core development cycle. The generally available version of.NET Core 2.0 should be available in Q3 2017, according to Microsoft's own roadmap.

The native development support for Android, iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS comes through Xamarin, Microsoft notes, which the software giant purchased over a year ago to beef up its position in the mobile market. This support also allows users to share XAML-based UI code without limiting the access to each specific platform.

Visual Studio for Mac borrows from Xamarin Studio as well as Visual Studio for Windows.
