"It was very hard for me to believe that an 8-year-old would even know what it means to commit suicide", Sammarco told WLW.
Around the 13-minute mark, Gabriel Taye, 8, can be seen entering a boys bathroom at the school January 24.
CCTV footage from Carson Elementary School, Cincinnati, has now been released, showing Gabriel Taye being knocked unconscious inside a school bathroom, just days before his death.
The Cincinnati Public Schools released a choppy and grainy 24-minute-long surveillance that appears to show Gabriel trying to shake the hand of a boy who had earlier hit another child and then collapsing to the floor after being pushed into a wall at the entrance of a boys' bathroom.
Carla Leader, a lawyer for the family, told ABC Cincinnati affiliate WCPO-TV Thursday it was unclear on the video whether Gabriel had hit his head on the wall or the floor.
His devastated mum explained how her little boy took his own life after suffering at the hands of bullies and an OH coroner has now reopened the investigation into her son's death.
Gabriel Taye, from Cincinnati, Ohio, took his own life in January after being relentlessly picked on by classmates, his mother said.
"In an effort to be completely transparent, we are releasing the video that was reviewed as part of an investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department".
But just two days alter, the eight-year-old was found dead in his bedroom.
"A boy is in the bathroom punching and threatening and assaulting other children and the son of my client walks in, he actually attempts to shake this assailant's hand and this assailant pulls him forward and slams him into the wall and he is knocked unconscious for seven-and-a-half minutes", says Branch, the victim's attorney. They uploaded the entire video Friday after initially declining to release it.
Henson says school officials sent a note home with students after his death, saying a child had died in an accident and counselors would be available for their children.
Emery said her 9-year-old daughter has also been bullied at the school.
A school surveillance video shows other students nudging or poking Gabriel with their feet as the 8-year-old lay motionless.
School officials said the detective's description mischaracterized the incident.
For months after his suicide, Gabriel's mother had no knowledge of the trouble in the school bathroom.
Cornelia Reynolds said in a Friday statement that her son Gabriel Taye's voice "will be heard" and she urges parents to tell their children to seek help if they are being hurt. They said Reynolds decided herself to pick him up from school and that she didn't take him to the hospital until her sister, who was baby-sitting while Reynolds was at work, called to say Gabriel had vomited and was complaining of stomach pains.
No charges have resulted from the investigation. She said she has seen a lot of bullying at the school and doesn't think it will get any better.
"It is our firm position that the allegations portrayed in the media are not supported by the video", school officials said. His mother says that when she asked Gabriel what had happened to him that day at school he had stated that he didn't remember.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said his office is looking into possible charges in the case.
School officials said they weren't aware of the incident outside the boy's room until investigators asked to review it.
Leader said Gabriel had no history of mental health issues and described him as a happy-go-lucky kid.
"Gabriel was a shining light to everyone who knew and loved him", his mother said in her statement.
"We miss him desperately and suffer every day". If I could, I would give anything to have him back.
