Celtics win NBA draft lottery

After the Lakers received the second pick in Tuesday night's National Basketball Association draft lottery, the chances that the team might select Lonzo Ball appeared to get a boost.

The Celtics had just one day off after eliminating the Washington Wizards in Game 7 of the conference semifinals - but what a day it was. But according to Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, the team already seems set on what to do with that prized pick. "There's a lot of good feelings around the Celtics right now". "We could get a little help for tomorrow night".

The Knicks drew the 8th pick in Tuesday night's NBA Draft lottery as the Boston Celtics took home the coveted first pick. We're excited. When he said who was No. 4, I went, 'OK, I'm good now.' If I get [No.] 3, I'm good. I mean, really, the top seed with the top pick? "This is what Brooklyn wanted to do, wanted to go all on it, chase a championship".

Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Steve Nash are gone, though on Tuesday they won't be forgotten.

With the first overall pick a year ago, they drafted forward Ben Simmons out of LSU. They had approximately an 18% percent shot of getting in the top three.

But the Celtics' choice is not important; L.A. got exactly what it needed this year.

While Washington guard Markelle Fultz appears to be the most likely selection for the Celtics with the No. 1 overall pick in this summer's NBA Draft, Danny Ainge has been known to surprise people.

2 dead after tornadoes hit Oklahoma, Wisconsin
He told the Eau Claire newspaper the Prairie Lakes Estates trailer park is a mess and they were still searching Tuesday night. Helicopter video from WCCO-TV and KARE-TV shows extensive damage at the trailer park, with several homes reduced to rubble.

The Los Angeles Lakers were other big winners, moving up one spot to second to hold onto their pick. If the Lakers would have dropped outside of the top three, their pick would have gone to the Philadelphia 76ers (who will be picking third overall, thanks to a pick swap with the Sacramento Kings) as part of a trade from a few years back. Given the second-highest odds (19.9%) of landing the number one pick, Phoenix fell into the fourth spot.

While Lakers draft rumors are already starting, a lot of them point to Lonzo Ball.

King will probably be mocked once again a year from now, when the Celtics - again - get Brooklyn's first-round pick.

In all fairness, however, I can not explain why the New York Knicks dropped to eight overall behind the Minnesota Timberwolves despite being tied in odds.

With recent speculation suggesting the lottery is fixed, the Suns dropping out of the top three will do nothing to quash those claims.

In the end, the Celtics and Lakers were the big victor on lottery night. But they are still very much underdogs to the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
