'American Idol' coming back to TV on ABC

Freda Brock | 19 May, 2017, 21:36

Details of the deal with producer FreemantleMedia, announced Tuesday morning on "Good Morning America", remain hazy, but "Idol" is expected back for fall.

The pop star search show is being revived by ABC after original broadcaster Fox made the decision to axe it in 2016 after 15 years on air.

"American Idol", which ended a 15-season run on Fox past year, will resume on ABC next season.

However, fans should expect big things, as Disney co-chairman Ben Sherwood described an all new iteration of American Idol that aims to be even "bigger and bolder" than Fox's version. "American Idol" brought us Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson, and ABC is officially bring back America's beloved singing competition where stars are born!

American Idol's new home on the Disney-owned ABC network comes a few years after the park closed its "American Idol Experience" attraction in Disney's Hollywood Studios. "We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams", ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey stated. Then he would wing his way back to NY in the wee hours of Monday, do "Live" that morning before doing the jaunt back to LA for the results show Monday night.

Performers who didn't win gained stardom through exposure on the show: Oscar victor Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry and many others.

This is the return of American Idol.

Now, many are wondering who will be the judges and of course who will host as Ryan Seacrest recently took a full-time spot as Kelly Ripa's co-host on Live!

HollywoodLifers, are you excited Idol is coming back?

Sources close to Seacrest did admit that he is already busy with other commitments that could keep him out of the "Idol" reboot.

Will Seacrest be returning, too?

Seacrest has a new gig, of course - with Kelly Ripa on "Live" - but he says he's interested in the old one.
