This Scarface version will be a reboot to both the 1923 and 1983 movies with new elements thrown into the mix.

The World is yours if you want it, David Ayer. Ayer steps in for Antoine Fuqua, who couldn't fit it into his growing schedule.

In any case, Ayer directing a Scarface remake sounds like a ideal marriage of material and filmmaker. And he once notoriously pulled a gun on his assistant for breaking a vase in his personal office over in Silverlake back in the mid-2000s, after he gained some acclaimed for his Training Day screenplay. Earlier drafts were written by Paul Attanasio and David Ayer.

Universal has dated the Scarface remake for Friday, August 10, 2018. But he has since dropped out, citing scheduling issues. Diego Luna (Rogue One, Blood Father) has been attached to play the title gangster, though it is unknown if he will stay on now that Ayer is attached. This new version of the gangster thriller has shifted locations from Miami to Los Angeles, and Ayer knows the dirty, gritty streets of modern day L.A.as well as any other current filmmaker. Don't worry, there won't be any zombies in the Scarface reboot.

5 good things Alien: Covenant should keep from Prometheus
Do xenomorphs enjoy gestating in unassuming dudes' stomachs? Thankfully, Alien: Covenant more than makes up for that omission. In that film, septuagenarian director Ridley Scott returned to the Alien-iverse he created and then left to others.

The latest Scarface is set to star Diego Luna with a script by the Coen Brothers.

Ayer most recently directed Netflix's fantasy cop thriller "Bright", starring Will Smith. He is already in place to direct to Suicide Squad spinoff film Gotham City Sirens.

Dylan Clark of War for the Planet of the Apes is on board to produce the film with Scott Stuber of Netflix and the 1983 film's producer Martin Bregman.
