"It is happening not only in Kerala, it is happening the world over - women are finding their voice", said editor Beena Paul Venugopal, among the founders of the collective along with actors Manju Warrier, Rima Kallingal, Parvathy, Sajitha Madhathil and Remya Nambeesan, filmmakers Vidhu Vincent, Anjali Menon and Asha Achi Joseph, writer Deedi Damodaran and cinematographer Fauzia Fathima.

The actresses and women technicians made a decision to form a new union, considering the problems faced by women in Malayalam film industry. The actresses and women technicians of Mollywood are joining hands under the leadership of popular actresses Manju Warrier, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, etc., for a new women's union.

For the first time in the country, women film professionals in Malayalam celluloid have formed a collective, called Women collective in cinema, mainly to fight against sexual exploitation and gender disparity in the industry.

A win for KKR and they would have climbed to second place in the IPL standings but the eventual result meant they finished fourth. It has been a tournament to remember for both of them, and they would like to emulate it one more time in the do-or-die tie.

After the formation of the organization, the artists visited Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in his office and talked to him about the matters. Film sets too should come under sexual harassment ban zones. The new organisation, Women in Cinema Collective (WICC), will not be an outfit operating parallel to existing actors' and technicians' associations. "We are planning to bring the attention of the CM to some of the major issues faced by women in the industry".

Later, Vijayan, in his Facebook post, said the government would take steps to prevent sexual harassment and abuse of women in the film industry. They also recommended that the government must provide subsidy to films that include at least 30 per cent of women participation in the technical departments. They also complained that some of the shooting sets doesn't even have the basic amenities for women.

The recent kidnapping and sexual assault of an actress formed the backdrop of this movement. The petitioners pointed out that this was not the first such incident, but rather the only reported one that came into the spotlight.
