Russian Federation probe 'hurts our country terribly'

Kenny Thornton | 19 May, 2017, 22:57

Trump is reacting to the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller to lead the investigation after he fired FBI Director James Comey.

Trump later contradicted his spokespeople and said that he would have fired Comey "regardless" of Rosenstein's recommendation.

Mr Trump is leaving on Friday for his first foreign trip as US President, which aides hope can have the effect of refocusing a White House in disarray.

A self-described friend of Comey's wrote in a public blog post on Thursday that Comey had told him that he had rebuffed a Trump request for loyalty by promising only honesty. The president interviewed four candidates to replace Comey on Wednesday, and POLITICO reported Thursday that former Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman has emerged as the front-runner.

Trump was speaking in a joint press conference with Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos.

Trump cited displeasure with the FBI's Russian Federation probe as a factor in dismissing Comey.

He offered a similar response to whether there was collusion between Russian Federation and his campaign.

"Everybody, even my enemies, have said there is no collusion", he replied.

However another answer on that subject seemed both more specific and perhaps ambiguous. "There is no collusion between certainly myself, and my campaign, but I can only speak for myself, and the Russians - zero".

McCain: Throw Turkish ambassador 'the hell out' of US
The diplomatic incident has sparked outrage in Washington and even prompted the State Department to summon the Turkish ambassador. However, those two guards claimed diplomatic immunity and were released after diplomatic security consulted with counsel.

Faso declined, however, to comment on President Donald Trump saying he's the victim of a "witch hunt" or about calls by some Democrats in Congress for Trump to be impeached.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said Democrats should take a lesson from the appointment of a special counsel.

Afterward, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters that "everything he said was that you need to treat this investigation as if it may be a criminal investigation".

"The takeaway I had", said Sen. And I think it's a very, very negative thing.

Mr Trump himself had already contradicted that explanation, telling interviewers earlier he had already made a decision to dismiss Mr Comey.

In the memo Rosenstein criticized Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation. He also said "it is obvious" that some people want to harm Trump.

"If he is able to come in as a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, use the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents that are already there, use the process that's already in the place, this will actually get to resolution much faster". The House Intelligence Committee asked Thursday for more documents related to Comey's firing.

By Wednesday evening, a Republican source said that the move effectively shut down Congress' intense digging into Comey and his conversations with Trump.

"No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse, or more unfairly", said the man who rose to political prominence as the face of the Birther Movement claiming President Barack Obama was an illegitimate president because he was not born in the United States, among other gob-smackers.
