Reached by phone, the Detroit Police Department tells NPR that Cornell was found at 12:05 a.m.at the MGM Grand Detroit. Megadeth got in one of the first performances taking the stage in Tokyo and revealing to the shocked crowd that Cornell had died before performing the Soundgarden favorite, "Outshined". The Detroit News cited Freeman in a similar report.

Hours before he was found dead in his Detroit hotel, Chris Cornell performed his final show with Soundgarden.

Staffers and well as fans that were present at Cornell's last concert at Detroit's Fox Theatre on Wednesday night have come out and stated that there were no signs the star had any intentions of ending his life.

Cornell was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden on a United States tour that kicked off last month.

Cornell's representative Brian Bumbery also said that Cornell's shocking death was "sudden and unexpected", which makes suicide a possibility.

"The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide", the official statement reads.

A family friend who was called to check in on Cornell forced his way into the hotel room and discovered the singer unresponsive on the bathroom floor, cops said.

APN Outdoor and oOh!media scrap proposed merger
It's believed other OOH operators had petitioned the ACCC sighting the un-competitive nature of any merger. The ACCC was to hand down its final verdict on July 6th, although that will no longer happen.

Media outlets in Detroit, quoting paramedics and police sources, reported there were no suspicious circumstances and his death was an apparent suicide.

Wayne County spokeswoman Lisa Croff said Thursday morning that the autopsy is being conducted by the county Medical Examiner's office.

Very sad news about Chris Cornell today. A sad loss of a great talent to the world, his friends and family. The frontman's signature soaring vocals were met with enthusiastic cheers as he launched through the band's biggest hits, including 1994's "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun", which earned Soundgarden two Grammy Awards in 1995.

In the late 1990s, Chris Cornell began a solo career that would eventually span five albums. In the early 2000s, Cornell started the group Audioslave, which featured members of Rage Against the Machine.

This was followed by 1996 effort Down on the Upside - an album that soon saw Soundgarden going on a lengthy hiatus until 2012 comeback effort King Animal.

He also released solo albums and, Nielsen Music said, as a band member and solo act, the singer sold nearly 15 million albums and 8.8 million digital songs in the United States.

And true to his ideals rooted in the grunge era, he said he would donate his proceeds from his song The Promise (for the 2017 movie of the same name) to the International Rescue Committee, which helps refugees to rebuild their lives.
