AT&T Wireless workers - some 21,000 of them - have given management until Friday, May 19 at 3 p.m. ET to come to the table with "serious proposals that invest in good jobs with a future". "We're really the heart of the company", said Mark Davis, an AT&T Mobility worker in Washington, D.C.
Landline workers in California and Nevada picketed for a day in March to protest work rules for some in-home technicians and moves to replace USA call-center jobs with contractors hired overseas.

At stake is a battle over the quality of union jobs at AT&T.
Union workers at the AT&T call center in Davenport have joined thousands of fellow employees in a nationwide strike.
"AT&T continues to pinch its workers' basic needs and stand in the way of high-quality service its customers pay good money for", Dennis Trainor, vice president of the union's District 1, said in a statement. "Eastern Time on Friday workers will be off the job and onto picket lines across the country".
All told, the CWA represents more than 100,000 workers across the country at AT&T. That includes the 19,000 line and cable workers in California, Nevada and CT and the DirecTV technicians who will also be walking picket lines over the weekend if they don't get a new contract. The union said that some company stores had been converted to noncompany stores and that much of the recent growth in the retail workforce had occurred at noncompany stores. They are fighting for a wage increase bigger than the 2 percent annual raise offered by AT&T, as well as benefits and commissions.
Employees claim the company is demanding more work for less and it is looking to third party dealers and overseas workers.
The company maintains a highly punitive sick leave and time-off policy, which can lead quickly to termination for employees unless their sickness is covered under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Frustrated over the lack of progress in contract talks, more than 17,000 AT&T union members in California and Nevada walked off their jobs on Friday.
The CWA threatened the move could disrupt "a large number of retail stores" across the United States over the weekend.
