Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp says slain police chief, Steven Eric Disario, had headed the Kirkersville Police Department for only about three weeks.
Thorp could not be reached for further comment, but local media, citing law enforcement officials, reported that two female nursing home employees and the shooter were later found dead inside the facility by other officers. Nurse Marlina Medrano, 46, and Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario, 36, were also killed in the Friday attack.

Investigators says they also found Hartless dead inside the nursing home. Authorities say Steven Eric Disario, who headed the Kirkersville Police Depar. He was released from jail in April after his latest domestic violence case in March.
Medrano had said earlier this month she was afraid to be alone with him.

Connie Long lives across the street from Hartless' parents' home, where he often stayed in Utica.
Some of the nursing home's 23 residents barricaded themselves during the shooting, but none of them was injured.
Authorities say the gunman had taken two passers-by as hostages in a wooded area behind the nursing home. DiSario, who had been serving as chief for three weeks, was a father of six, with another one on the way. The chief's last radio communication said he had the man in sight.
Disario, responding to a report of a man with a gun, apparently encountered the gunman in that area.
