But lawyers in the White House counsel's office have consulted experts in impeachment during the past week and have begun collecting information on how such proceedings would work, a person briefed on the matter told CNN.

White House lawyers started researching impeachment procedures this week in order to defend President Trump from potential efforts to remove him from office, reports CNN, citing "people briefed on the discussions". The broader inquiry evolved dramatically in the past 10 days after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

Earlier this week, close advisers to the President, including lawyer and surrogate Michael Cohen, visited the White House to discuss his need to hire personal attorneys for Trump. The request to cease an investigation raised eyebrows, as well as concerns that Trump could be guilty of obstruction of justice.

Anthony Weiner expected to plead guilty in 'sexting' case involving minor
Disgraced former U.S. congressman Anthony Weiner has cried in court as he pleaded guilty to sexting a 150-year-old girl. An effort to resurrect his career progressed in 2013 as he began his candidacy for mayor of NY .

At least one White House source subsequently claimed that the CNN story was false. Flynn later registered as a foreign agent of Turkey, and according to the Miami Herald, he enacted a pro-Turkish policy during his short time as National Security Advisor. Although some scholars have said that this is an impeachable offense, it's not an issue that's received much attention as of late, and would seem to be an unlikely source of the White House's decision to take the possibility of impeachment more seriously. And Democrats are trying to tamp down impeachment talk as well, the Washington Times reported.

So far, only a handful of congressional Democrats, such as Rep. Maxine Waters and Rep. Al Green, along with Republican Congressman Justin Amash, have tossed out the possibility of impeachment.
