Three men killed while climbing Mount Everest

Francis Olson | 23 May, 2017, 10:41

Climbers from the United States and Slovakia also died on the Nepalese side of the mountain on Sunday. "There are more interesting mountains to climb".

Separate Sherpas will be sent to recover his body. Nepal has cleared 371 mountaineers to climb Mt Everest during the current season ending this month.

Roland Yearwood, 50, from Georgiana, Alabama, died on Sunday close to the Balcony, a small platform above the 8,000-metre mark known as the mountain's "death zone".

According to Chowang Sherpa, Managing Director of Arun Treks and Expedition, the handling agency of Kumar's expedition, a team of high-altitude guides spotted the body on Monday morning "resting below 200-metre-deep crevasse of "balcony" (8,400 metres) near the summit".

This season, more than 120 climbers have successfully summited Everest from the south side so far with another 80 reaching the peak from the Tibet side.

The deaths came a day after an Indian climber fell 200 metres (650 feet) to his death after scaling the peak a day earlier, a Tourism Department official said. Min Bahadur Sherchan died at the Everest base camp on Saturday evening while attempting to regain his title as the oldest person to climb Mount Everest.

Bosz's players have had a busy season, too, but they've had well over a week without a competitive match to prepare for the final. Jones, 25, admitted there are some exhausted limbs but is calling for one last push to make it a season to remember.

In 2015, he was on the mountain when an natural disaster in Nepal triggered an avalanche that killed 18 climbers. The guide also was sick but managed to drag himself to the camp at South Col, located at 8,000 meters (26,247 feet).

More climbers are expected to attempt to scale the mountain on Monday.

The Slovakian climber who died Sunday was 50-year-old Vladimir Strba, Tourism Ministry official Gyanendra Shrestha told the AP. This was the deadliest episode since an avalanche swept through base camp two years ago, killing 18 people.

A dozen other climbers had to be rescued in the past three days due to difficulties on the "Roof of the World", the rescuers told the Washington Post. Although three people were killed over the weekend, and another remains missing, 60 climbers reached the summit of Mount Everest on Sunday.

According to reports, the physician was on Everest for a second time when he died. The high volume of traffic has fuelled concerns about safety issues on the mountain, which continues to suffer environmental degradation.
