Three policemen died in the attacks that occurred on Wednesday at Jakarta's Kampung Melayu bus station. Still in recent years it has faced a new threat as the rise of the Islamic State group in the Middle East has breathed new life into local militant networks and raised concern about the risk of Indonesian fighters returning home.

On Friday morning, the anti-terror elite unit and local police forces arrested two men in Bandung, located southwest of Jakarta, and the third in Cimahi.

Police said the May 24 attack had targeted officers, using pressure cookers packed with explosives.

The attack was the deadliest in Indonesia since January 2016, when eight people were killed, four of them attackers, after suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the capital.

After visiting the attack site, President Joko Widodo said Indonesia needed to accelerate plans to strengthen anti-terrorism laws to prevent new attacks.

The suspects are believed to be connected to Wednesday's blasts and were taken into custody from three places in Bandung, the capital of West Java province, West Java police spokesman Yusri Yunus said. "There's a link, but we're still studying whether it's an worldwide network", Setyono said.

The former leader was also accused of letting Choi, who assumed no public post, intervene in state affairs behind the scenes. They were charged with taking bribes worth about $52 million from large conglomerates including Samsung , Lotte and SK.

The president said he had ordered the chief security minister to get the revisions done as soon as possible.

"The roles of each and their group are still being investigated", Yunus said.

The changes would see authorities handed powers to hold terror suspects without trial for longer and make it illegal for Indonesians to pledge loyalty to militant groups such as IS.

A police source told The Straits Times on Friday (May 26) that while the first suspected suicide bomber has been identified as Ichwan Nurul Salam, a 34-year-old man from Bandung, West Java, police were still working on identifying the second bomber.

"Yes, we have arrested three people".
