Arsenal win FA Cup to deny Chelsea double

Rita Gibson | 28 May, 2017, 09:48

Arsenal have recorded the most number of FA Cup final wins in the history of the tournament as they clinched their 13th title.

And Wenger said he'll have a meeting with the powers that be at the Emirates on Tuesday to decide whether he'll be at the club next season.

"I think the first goal was very unusual", said the Italian.

Wenger's stock has fallen in the eyes of Arsenal fans as the team have struggled at times this season, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

Arsenal played as though affronted by the fact they had finished 18 points behind Chelsea in the league.

"This team has suffered, but it has united and responded".

Instead, the FA Cup is the consolation prize again for Arsenal and Wenger. They played the better football and wanted it more. He switched to a three-man defense following a loss to Crystal Palace in mid-April, and the Gunners have won nine and only lost once in all competitions since, including the win over the league champs to take the FA Cup crown.

Wenger was ebullient about his side whose vibrant performance to outplay the Premier League champions he described as one of the proudest moments of his long career.

LeBron James Sets New NBA Scoring Record
By halftime, James had 20 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, and the Cavs were up 75-57. For James, the Finals are an annual rite. "They have a great team right now", James said.

It was the right decision, but certainly not an easy one to make. When 10-man Chelsea drew level through Costa, they could have collapsed, but within three minutes they netted a victor through Ramsey's header.

"When they equalized it looked like things were against us, but we dug deep", Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck said.

"I don't know what will happen next week". Unsurprisingly, Wenger is anxious about publicly discussing whether he expects the north London club to offer a new contract.

Cesc Fabregas believes he has proven his class at Chelsea despite being left out of Antonio Conte's FA Cup final XI, but refused to rule out a move away from the club in the future. And Mertesacker rewarded him with a top display in defense. "So, hopefully, he'll be here next season because we owe him a lot". It's been an up and down season.

Yet back in the bowels of the stadium, where questions quickly turned to his future, he kept his cards close to his chest, refusing to offer any real clues as to whether the FA Cup victory represented a glorious farewell or the springboard for future success under his command.

"I feel I am in a public job, I accept to be criticised and I accept that people don't agree with me", he added. The boys deserve this.

The Blues boss said: "I don't smoke, but I'm hoping to smoke a cigar if we win and to drink a bit of champagne".
