Jeremy Corbyn fights back after childcare funding gaffe

Ben Pena | 31 May, 2017, 22:40

As Mr Corbyn continues to face scrutiny over his position on terror and security issues, the Daily Telegraph reports that he has been condemned by his own party for attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of a Palestinian terrorist.

Theresa May, foreground, is trying to return the focus of the election to the question of how can best negotiate Britain's exit from the European Union.

He questioned Corbyn over why he had been unable to get his long-held belief in nuclear disarmament, as well as others, into the Labour manifesto, which backs the renewal of the Trident nuclear missile system.

As her lead shrank, May was forced to backtrack on the policy at an appearance before the media on Monday at which she appeared flustered and irritated when taking questions from reporters.

She added: "As always with Jeremy Corbyn and Labour, the shambles and the responsibility would be theirs but the consequences and the bill would be ours".

On social care, Corbyn said £2bn per year would go to cover the "immediate crisis" and promised £800mln towards pension credit for the so-called Waspi women who have missed out as a result of the increase in the state pension age.

The TV event comes as Mrs May's opponents sought to maintain pressure on her following the extraordinary U-turn over the social care policy which formed the centrepiece of her election manifesto.

"If in order to address them and do the right thing by the country it takes being a hard woman, that's exactly what I'll be".

She told the police officer: "What we had to do when we came into government in 2010 was to ensure that we were living within our means and that was very important because of the economic situation we had inherited". Instead she insisted she sound deliver the Brexit the majority of British people voted for.

Arsenal hands Wenger new contract after review of struggles
But Mirror Sport reports that Wenger will stay and the deal has now been agreed with a formal announcement to follow on Wednesday. Wenger, and the club as a whole, have been criticised in recent seasons for a lack of inspirational signings.

"We shouldn't write off the thought that young people will turn out for this election (in large numbers) - but I think it's unlikely", Boon said.

Supporters of both party leaders claimed victory after the Battle For Number 10 show - the first in this General Election to be broadcast in front of a live TV audience.

"It is a hypothetical question", he said.

"Doing what is the right thing by the country".

She confirmed an overall cap would be put on funding but would not say where this would be set. Prime Minister Theresa May went on the attack with sharply personal criticism.

Labour is on 37%, up three points on a week ago and six points behind the Tories, who are unchanged on 43%. The smaller Liberal Democrats were on eight percent.

The Labour leader mainly discussed his personality rather than politics on Monday night, and was commended for his "genuine" and "funny" approach.

May has been the clear favorite, but with Labour catching up, one of them will take up residence in Downing Street on June 9.
