Kathy Griffin says 'career over' after graphic Trump photo

Freda Brock | 08 June, 2017, 17:47

Comedian Kathy Griffin broke down in tears a few times at a Friday press conference with her lawyer, in an event meant to defend a photo Griffin made that appeared to show her raising President Trump's bloody, severed head.

"What's happening to me has never happened in the history of this great country", Griffin said at a press conference where she was flanked by her attorneys, including Lisa Bloom.

Kathy Griffin has broken down and accused President Donald Trump and his family of launching a campaign to ruin her life.

The amusing lady took the mic and said she's taking a stand against misogyny and the most "woman-hating, tyrannical President in United States history".

And Griffin insisted she wasn't going to stop making fun of Trump, adding, "He does provide a lot of material".

Bloom said the Trump image was a response to then-candidate Trump's campaign comment that former Fox news anchor Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her eyes", and that it wasn't a threat of violence against Trump, whom they called "the most woman-hating tyrannical president" in US history.

"The Secret Service is doing their job I suppose anytime they perceive there's a threat". It's in your face. "I think he - I think he - I'm going to be honest, he broke me!"

Sources said Griffin had expected CNN "golden boy" Cooper to stand by her, but the news network swiftly announced she was sacked from the NYE broadcast with Cooper, which they've done together for 10 years.

She said the online attacks on her in the last few days - including death threats - were a distraction mobilized by a president embattled by scandal. I feel disgusting. I make mistakes.

"Probably [Demi] Lovato", she said in a tweet, wherein she called the former Disney Channel star "Debbie".

"They're using me as the shiny object, so that nobody's talking about his [Trump's] FBI investigation", Griffin said.

Griffin was scheduled to perform in her "Celebrity Run-In" tour at the theaters in November.

Griffin admits that her brand of shock-comedy does not meet everyone's taste, but she said she believes backlash against her photo is rooted, in part, in sexism.

President Trump responded to the work by tweeting that the comedian "should be ashamed of herself".

Griffin is also good friends with Cooper's famous mother, Gloria Vanderbilt.
