Claiming vindication, Trump answers Comey testimony with denials

US Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta speaks during the briefing at the White House in Washington DC Claiming vindication, Trump answers Comey testimony with denials

He painted Trump as a chief executive dismissive of the FBI's independence and made clear that he interpreted Trump's request to end an investigation into Flynn, his former national security adviser, as an order coming from the president.

President Donald Trump refused Friday to say whether his private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey were taped - a matter at the heart of conflicting accounts of what passed between them - and asserted that nothing in Comey's testimony to the Senate showed collusion with Russian Federation or obstruction of justice.

Mr Comey, who claims he was sacked because he refused to back down in the Russian probe, said: 'Lordy, I hope there are tapes'. "Yesterday showed no collusion, no obstruction", Mr Trump said.

During a news conference Friday, Trump said he'd have more information related to whether tapes exist at a later date.

Trump insisted on June 9 that he is being truthful and he is "100 percent" willing to testify under oath.

Trump tweeted in May that Comey "better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press". Karl: And did he ask you to pledge his loyalty-Trump: And there would be nothing wrong if I did say it, according to everybody that I've read today.

Trump replied: "Oh, you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don't worry". Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May, delivered a scathing indictment of the president on Thursday at a congressional hearing in which he accused Trump of trying to block the investigation into Flynn.

The committee want the material by 23 June.

After his success at Roland Garros, Nadal climbed to second in the rankings, cutting the gap on Andy Murray to just 2605 points. But not only here: since the beginning of the year, you can see he's playing more aggressively, staying closer to the line.

Mr Trump - who denies asking Mr Comey for loyalty - attacked the former Federal Bureau of Investigation head's testimony as "lies" in a tweet on Friday: 'Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication'. "I'm not going to say, 'I want you to pledge allegiance'".

Trump and his outside attorney, Marc Kasowitz, have zeroed in on this and lambasted Comey for ordering the "leaks".

Following Thursday's hearing, Burr, the Senate Intelligence Committee chairman, declined be drawn out when asked if he was more inclined to believe Comey or Trump. Mr Trump wrote at 6.10am.

The president had previewed his attacks against Mr Comey in an early-morning tweet that broke his previous day's silence on his favorite social media megaphone.

Comey said he kept memos on his conversations with Trump - but hadn't with two previous presidents or other top Justice Department officials - because he "was honestly concerned that he might lie about the nature of our meeting".

The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the White House last month about such tapes.

Rather, Kasowitz said, Trump felt vindicated that Comey told him on several occasions that the president was not personally a focus of the investigation, an assertion Comey appeared to back up in his testimony Thursday to the Senate Intelligence Committee. Mike Conaway (R-TX) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) wrote to Comey in the wake of the testimony, requesting "any notes or memoranda in his possession memorializing discussions Comey had with President Trump".

LOS ANGELES (AP) - An estimated 19.5 million viewers watched James Comey's widely televised U.S. Senate testimony.
