Trump wants to 'stay engaged' on climate: Tillerson

Trump wants to 'stay engaged' on climate: Tillerson Trump wants to 'stay engaged' on climate: Tillerson

US President Donald Trump wants to stay engaged on climate change and has not abandoned the issue, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said, days after Mr Trump announced he was quitting the Paris accord.

Mr Tusk says the American decision is a "huge mistake, bigger than not rectifying the Kyoto Protocol". He said participating in the pact would undermine the United States economy, wipe out jobs, weaken national sovereignty and put his country at a permanent disadvantage. As a result, withdrawing from it can't have major consequences by itself.

U.S. think tank Climate Interactive predicts that if all nations fully achieve their Paris pledges, the average global surface temperature rise by 2100 will be 3.3C, or 3.6C without the US. The risk that climate change will have catastrophic effects justifies investing to predict, mitigate and adapt to those effects.

But Lin Boqiang, director of the China Center for Energy Economic Research at Xiamen University, called Washington's move a "double-edged sword" for China, saying that any U.S. relaxation of restrictions on fossil fuels could reduce market opportunities for China's solar panel manufacturers.

After Trump withdrew from the Paris Agreement, his Counselor Kellyanne Conway said on Good Morning America that he "made very clear yesterday what he doesn't believe".

Stephen Curry is the back-to-back reigning MVP, the best shooter of all-time who has rounded out his game to unexpected levels. Still, he insisted he had another notch to raise his game, and he certainly found it. "It was phenomenal to be a part of".

Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord was widely condemned by many worldwide leaders, US companies, Democrats and many American citizens. We are told that other governments will no longer trust America to keep its commitments. But it would not be a bad thing for other countries to learn that a president's say-so can't always bind future presidents. Demonstrators also demanded that Trump release his tax returns, a tradition among U.S. presidents which Trump has steadfastly refused to follow. Trump's withdrawal, Oliver argues, isn't to protect US interests but his own ego. That breadth of support helps explain why Trump made this move while so far refraining from tearing up NAFTA and the like.

With such complexities of cause-and-effect in climate science and justice, the membership of the USA in the Paris Agreement, which constitutes the participation of not only a top emitter but also a large proportion of the first world's population, was to be welcomed, particularly after the noteworthy failure of its predecessor, the Kyoto Protocol. It would be better to take a different path altogether.

Musk has been a vocal supporter of carbon taxes, saying, "All we are doing [with a carbon tax] is trying to match the inherent subsidy for fossil fuels... on the sustainable energy side".
