Collusion with Russian Federation a "detestable and appalling lie": Sessions

Collusion with Russian Federation a Collusion with Russian Federation a "detestable and appalling lie": Sessions

For his celebration in 1996, Trump was presented with a large cake decorated with painstakingly iced images of all his buildings, overlooked by a sugar-wrought figurine of himself, dressed as Superman, with a dollar sign emblazoned across his miniature chest. "You don't walk into any committee meeting and reveal confidential communications with president of United States".

The White House has moved to put a lid on speculation that President Donald Trump might fire the special counsel investigating the Russian Federation affair, while leaving just enough of a crack to keep the idea bubbling.

In his dramatic appearance before former colleagues, Sessions contradicted former FBI Director James Comey's testimony from last week.

Mueller also won votes of support Tuesday from the top two Republicans in Congress, House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, both of whom said they have confidence in him.

"I have no knowledge of any such conversations by anyone connected to the Trump campaign", he said.

SHAPIRO: Is it your understanding that the dismissal of FBI Director Comey could have been what triggered this expansion of the investigation into possible obstruction of justice? Sessions had failed to disclose these meetings in written testimony submitted at his confirmation hearings. Grassley's office said the letter is in response to a recent letter from Feinstein requesting that the committee seek details from senior Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership about Comey's interactions with President Donald Trump before he was sacked.

Sessions was adamant he never had a third meeting with the Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Since then, he has also come under fire for paid, and undeclared, lobbying work he undertook for Turkey, while animately supporting the president on his campaign trail.

There is ample reason for the president to be nervous.

The report that Trump himself is being scrutinized for obstruction of justice served to undercut Trump's claims. Trump reportedly asked Coats on March 22, with CIA Director Mike Pompeo still in the room, if he there was a way to get Comey to back off the FBI's Flynn investigation.

President Trump invited the 'witch hunt'
Also, he's not 100% sure that Russian Federation messed with the election, because he's only read news reports about it. He said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had long discussed their concerns with Comey's job performance.

Trump, we know now, repeatedly asked then-FBI Director James Comey whether he, personally, was under investigation.

The Washington Post first reported Wednesday that Mueller's probe was widening to include looking into whether Trump obstructed justice. (That doesn't mean they won't do exactly that, of course.) We are now talking about the President of the United States being investigated for possibly obstructing justice in relation to a criminal probe about a foreign government meddling in our elections for the goal of defeating his Democratic opponent. He also provided resistance that may offer a boost to a crisis-weary White House that has been unable to shrug off the dark cloud over the Russian Federation investigation.

Mueller was appointed by US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US polls. "But I'm not going to get into the content".

"Any suggestion I participated in, or was aware of, collusion with the Russians is an appalling and detestable lie."

"Many have suggested that my recusal is because I felt I was a subject of the investigation myself, that I may have done something wrong", Sessions added.

"I appointed him; I stand by that decision, " he said. And, notes the Times, the accrual of information by the F.B.I. about a potential crime does not necessarily mean prosecutors are constructing a case.

The Post report cited anonymous sources who were briefed on requests made by investigators.

CNN's Jeff Zeleny and Manu Raju contributed to this report.

Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy sparked a media rampage after saying that he believed that Trump was considering firing Mueller.
