Federal Red Snapper Recreational Season Extended

Federal Red Snapper Recreational Season Extended Federal Red Snapper Recreational Season Extended

The 39-day season is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Friday, June 16, through Monday, Sept. 4.

"Recreational red snapper fishing is highly important to Florida's Gulf coast communities", FWC Executive Director Nick Wiley said in a press release.

The 2017 federal red snapper season for private recreational angles had been capped at an all-time low of three days, ending on June 4.

Added U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Tuscaloosa: "I am pleased the Department of Commerce is listening to states and local anglers to provide immediate relief to this problem". State waters will be open the rest of this week and, beginning Monday, June 19, will close Mondays through Thursdays through September 4, except July 3 and 4.

Some officials have questioned what the 2018 federal recreational season might look like if the Gulf's catch limit is exceeded during this 39-day summer season extension. When anglers go over a catch limit set by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, the number is subtracted from the next year's limit.

"If we manage this effort responsibly and stay within established conservation standards, we stand a better chance of gaining control of fishing for red snapper in federal waters in the future".

Sessions's Testimony Clears Sessions (But Not Trump)
Last week, Comey testified in a Senate hearing that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation". He said he would agree to dismiss Mueller only if there were a legitimate basis to do so. "I don't know Sen".

The Environmental Defense Fund and Charter Fisherman's Association sent a letter to Ross decrying the season expansion because it will result in significant quota overages.

"I think that's great, I think that's great for our economy, there are enough snapper out there for us in South Alabama to extend that season we're all very excited about it, it's great for families it's great for fun, it's great for our economy, it's great for tourism", said a man who identified himself as Doctor O. While the proposal is getting positive marks overall, some who make their living fishing say it only helps a small group of fisherman rather than the whole industry.

"People profiting from our public resources were gifted more access than the American public", he said. Under the plan, 150 randomly chosen anglers would be granted the right to harvest a total of 25,000 pounds of red snapper in federal waters anytime throughout the year.

For the first time in a long time, there's some rare good news on the red snapper front in the Gulf of Mexico.

The proposal has drawn howls of protest from recreational-fishing advocacy groups and even the state Legislature, which voted almost unanimously against it.
