Sigh: Why Is Trump Attacking His Own Deputy Attorney General on Twitter?

Kenny Thornton | 17 June, 2017, 03:55

Mr Corallo didn't elaborate on why he singled out the Federal Bureau of Investigation as the source of information.

"Mueller is setting up a dragnet of obstruction, financial questions and every aspect of Trump's life and his associates lives", Gingrich wrote on Twitter, adding "very unsafe".

While Mueller is now leading the investigation, Rosenstein still maintains the authority to make final decisions about adding resources and personnel to the probe - and most critically, over whether any prosecutions should be pursued.

I'm not in a position to say which of these options will prevail, but let's not forget that Trump is one of the very few people who's directly aware of the degree to which he's guilty.

Shortly after Trump fired Comey, a Justice Department official tapped Mueller to take up the investigation as a special counsel.

When Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey last month, he initially cited a memo written by Rosenstein as the basis for the dismissal.

Trump himself appeared to signal he might favor such an option, posting a Tweet Friday morning before the report taking aim at Rosenstein.

A spokesman for President Trump's lawyer responded to the Post's report by saying: "The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

The White House noted in a statement last month that FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe testified that "there has been no effort to impede our investigation to date". Trump was never a subject of the Russian Federation probe, nor did he ever seek to impede it, but his potential interference on behalf of Michael Flynn on a tertiary matter likely attracted this tentacle of the investigation.

Last week the White House began referring all questions about the Russian Federation investigation to Trump's personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz.

His comments follow revelations that special counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey.

After the meeting with Mueller, Warner was asked by CNN's Manu Raju whether the committee is looking into obstruction of justice or if that was part of the special counsel investigation.

Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he believes Trump fired him last month because he resisted a request to drop the Russian Federation investigation, especially as it related to former national security adviser Michael.

That isn't true anymore, according to reporting by The Washington Post on Wednesday night.

Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein testifies on Capitol Hill in Washington on Tuesday before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the Justice Department's fiscal 2018 budget.

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favor, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team. First, it is the president himself acknowledging that he is, in fact, under investigation for possible obstruction of justice-something even on Thursday the White House would not acknowledge.

Comey's firing has been a source of considerable controversy for the Trump administration. When the briefing ended, as The Post previously reported, Trump asked everyone to leave the room except for Coats and CIA Director Mike Pompeo. Trump told his supporters on Twitter.
