Kenny Thornton | 17 June, 2017, 02:27

The SNP leader has already pledged to "reflect carefully" on the recent General Election result and has conceded that plans for a second vote on leaving the United Kingdom were "undoubtedly" a factor in the result. The SNP, although winning fewer seats, still emerged as by far the largest party in Scotland.

Independence agitator in chief Alex Salmond, and the SNP's Westminster leader Angus Robertson were two of the high profile scalps to be claimed on election night.

Nicola Sturgeon has today warned the Prime Minister that the Scottish Government and other United Kingdom devolved administrations could derail the final Brexit deal as she stepped up calls to be involved in negotiations.

Mrs May's official spokesman said: "We gave a commitment right at the very outset of this process to consult with the devolved administrations and that remains the case".

She said: "The idea that the United Kingdom led by this Prime Minister and this Government can just blunder into negotiations starting one week today, I just don't think it's a credible proposition".

'That proposal failed to garner support, it is now clear that a new proposal is urgently needed to protect the economy and bring people together.

NICOLA Sturgeon has written to Theresa May to tell her that a Brexit deal can not be put in place without the cooperation of the Scottish Government.

Edinburgh's call for a special deal to keep Scotland in the single market while the rest of the United Kingdom leaves the bloc has been repeatedly rejected by the British government.

The devolved nations must be represented in the Brexit negotiating team, she added.

Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish National Party, has long opposed plans to take Britain out of the European Union's single market, something May has previously said she plans to do in order to control migration from the bloc into Britain.

Brexit talks are due to start next week.

Sturgeon said the United Kingdom government should also reconvene a joint ministerial committee involving all three devolved governments in Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff, and set up an advisory groupinvolving Sinn Féin to agree an all-party, all-government negotiating position.

'I have said that I will reflect on the election result in Scotland, listen to voters and consider carefully the best way forward for Scotland, ' she wrote in her letter.
