Mistrial declared in Cosby case after jury deadlocks again

Ben Pena | 18 June, 2017, 11:45

After more than six days of deliberation in Norristown, Pennsylvania, jurors were unable to come to a unanimous decision beyond a reasonable doubt.

Bill Cosby's lawyer repeatedly demanded a mistrial in his sex assault trial as five days of deliberations on the fate of the man once known as America's Dad pushed into Father's Day weekend, but the judge said there was no precedent to shut down the jury's talks. Cosby has denied all of the charges, and has only been criminally charged in the Constand case.

"Bill Cosby has already been exposed as a predator who hid behind his jovial mask for more than 50 years and no jury verdict will ever change that", she said.

Prosecutors in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial have vowed to try him a second time.

'She is a positive person and has kept all of us going while waiting for the jury to come back, ' Steele said.

However, prosecutors said they would retry Cosby and he still faces a slew of civil lawsuits.

Cosby had faced spending the rest of his life in prison if he was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Cosby has said any sexual activity was consensual.

"The jurors used their power to speak, and Mr. Cosby's power is back", Wyatt said after leaving the courthouse.

Congressman's shooter went to GOP baseball practice with list of names
The bullet entered his left hip and tore through his pelvis, breaking bones, injuring organs and causing severe bleeding. Democrat Cedric Richmond, a fellow Louisiana congressman, said as many others did that Scalise is a fighter.

A decade later, another district attorney reopened the investigation after Cosby's lurid testimony about drugs and sex became public, and dozens of women came forward against one of the most beloved stars in all of show business. Constand first filed a civil claim against Cosby in 2005.

He says he'll retry Cosby on charges the 79-year-old TV star drugged and molested Andrea Constand at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004.

The jury deliberated for 54 hours; longer than the trial itself.

The trial of Bill Cosby on sexual-assault charges has been declared a mistrial.

By Thursday morning, after almost 30 hours of discussions spanning three days, the jurors told O'Neill they were at a stalemate. As NBC News reports, other alleged victims were on hand to comfort Constand when the mistrial was declared.

Former federal prosecutor David Weinstein said Cosby's celebrity nearly certainly played a role in the jury's deliberations, perhaps to convince "two or three jurors that it's impossible to convict Dr. Huxtable, to convict Fat Albert. that he couldn't have done this terrible thing".

Masten was among the Cosby accusers who responded to CNN requests for reaction to the mistrial. Prosecutors suggested he drugged her with something stronger. "Camille Cosby" is mostly gaining wrath in the reply section of Twitter, with Camille blaming the District Attorney, the media, and others in the statement.

With the criminal case now set for a retrial, it appears that the MA civil case will be significantly prolonged. There's a good chance you'll hear when it's finalized, too, given the huge amount of attention the previous trial received.

As jurors left for the night, O'Neill praised their "hard work, dedication and fidelity to your oath".
