Madrid have expressed "full confidence" in Ronaldo and believe he will be proven innocent of any wrongdoing, but nonetheless the Portugal global is claimed to have made an "irreversible decision" to leave Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is "outraged" at what he feels is unfair treatment by Spanish tax authorities and is determined to quit the club and the country.

Madrid released a statement backing their star, asking for justice to be done "so that his innocence can be proven as soon as possible".

Calderon added that if Ronaldo does want to leave, there is little Madrid can do to stop him: "I had the same situation with Manchester United when he chose to leave and I signed him".

Ronaldo, 32, is said to be miffed over claims by authorities that he defrauded the Spanish taxman of €14.7million during his time at the capital, an allegation he has refuted. The Parisians have a transfer kitty of £192m at their disposal this summer, and with highly regarded Antero Henrique now in the sporting director's role, a move could be plausible.

Since joining the Spanish giants, Ronaldo has scored 406 goals in 394 appearances for Real Madrid, and as Metro report, he is considered one of the finest players of all time.

Manchester United have Cristiano Ronaldo's "heart", amid talk of a potential return to Old Trafford this summer, according to former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon. "He said "I want to leave" and that was that", Calderon told BBC Radio 5 live.

The four-time World Footballer of the Year has helped Real win the Champions League three times and La Liga twice.

"Ronaldo has United in his heart".

However, his Real contract is understood to have a €1 billion (£874m) buy-out clause and, in May, Forbes calculated his pre-tax salary as being close to £45m a year. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested at that price.

Portugal forward Andre Silva says Cristiano Ronaldo is locked in for his side's Confederations Cup opener against Mexico.

"Alvaro Morata is not happy at Real Madrid", Calderon told the Sun.
