The suspect in a van attack on worshippers leaving a north London mosque screamed "I'm going to kill all Muslims" before he was tackled to the floor, according to a witness.

A Twitter post on the account of Muslim Engagement and Development, a nonprofit organization that fights Islamophobia and encourages British Muslims to get more involved in media and politics, said, "Our prayers and thoughts with those injured outside Muslim Welfare House in Seven Sisters road hit by a van mounting pavement".

Ms Rudd said: "We have again woken up to another bad incident in London where a man has taken hold of a van and driven it into a group of innocent people in Finsbury Park".

Police said they were called just after 12:20am (2320 GMT Sunday) to reports of a collision on Seven Sisters Road, which runs through the Finsbury Park area of north London.

The crash occurred near the Finsbury Park Mosque as worshippers were leaving after Ramadan prayers.

On June 3, a van drove into a crowd of people walking on the London Bridge, followed by knife attacks that killed eight and wounded many others.

The 48-year-old driver of the van was detained by members of the public and then arrested by police.

Rudd, who is in charge for government law enforcement, said: "Londoners have been hit with a series of attacks and have been nothing short of heroic." she said Monday.

A new board of trustees and management took over in February 2005, a year after Abu Hamza was arrested by British police, since when attendance has greatly increased among worshippers from various communities, according to the mosque's website.

He said the man arrested did not say anything.

Another said the attacker shouted about killing Muslims as he was held by local people.

One eyewitness who lives in a flat on Seven Sisters Road told the BBC she saw people "shouting and screaming", saying: "Everyone was shouting "a van's hit people".

"This is being treated as a terrorist attack".

London Ambulance Service said in a statement that a number of ambulance crews, paramedics and specialist responses teams to the scene.

One man, who gave his name as Mohin, said his cousin was caught up in the incident. "Eight people injured were taken to three separate hospitals; two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries".

His colleague Helen Whately, who represents Faversham and Mid Kent, said: "Shocked to wake to news of van attack on worshipers outside mosque".

The incident comes at a time when emotions are high in England, where there have been several recent terrorist attacks in recent weeks. It said its prayers are with the victims. "It's a very strong Muslim community in this area and what's happening today is I think the people must be extremely, extremely sad", Al-Sulaman said.

Vanzella said she saw police put a man into a police auto and take him away, but she didn't see them arrest him.

Earlier, he tweeted: "I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight".

People had been attending mosques in the area as part of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

"An advance trauma team from London's Air Ambulance has also been dispatched by vehicle", the statement said.

Further details were not immediately available.
