Afghanistan's president says the death toll from last week's massive suicide truck bombing in Kabul has surpassed 150, making it the deadliest single attack in the 16 years since the US invaded to topple the Taliban.

At least 10 people were killed and 16 others were wounded in an explosion near police offices and a mosque in Herat province in western Afghanistan.

More than 150 people died in last week's Kabul suicide blast, President Ashraf Ghani said as he opened multi-national talks on bringing peace.

He said being victim of terrorism, Pakistan feels the pain and agony of the Afghan people and it has condemned the Kabul terrorist attack in strongest terms. "One hopes this meeting today in Kabul provides more clarity from Washington", said Davood Moradian, director of the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies in Kabul.

The death toll from a devastating truck bomb in Kabul's diplomatic quarter last week has jumped to more than 150, President Ashraf Ghani told an global peace conference in the capital on Tuesday.

Over 150 people were killed and hundreds more were wounded in the deadly bombing that rocked capital Kabul last Wednesday.

But the Afghanistan Cricket Board issued a strongly worded statement late on Wednesday, cancelling the matches in light of a truck bombing in the city's diplomatic quarter that killed at least 90 people.

German minister sees hope of 'soft' Brexit, with conditions
Brussels is also resisting British demands for immediate talks on a future free trade arrangement. With uncertainty emanating from London , the talks will be complex and highly politicised.

Officials said that the toll could rise.

"Even if Russian Federation and others want to hold peace meetings, their agendas would have to be in accordance with the Kabul Process".

Ghani reiterated on Tuesday that he wants peace talks with the Taliban, but said that it wasn't an "open-ended" opportunity. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which sparked violent anti-government protests. He was given a rare and warm welcome at the Pakistani army's headquarters; however, the thaw in ties was short lived as Kabul blamed Islamabad for a deadly string of terrorist attacks in 2015.

He told the meeting it was time for the Taliban to embrace peace or "face the consequences".

Ghani's accusation signals the difficulty North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and Afghan forces have in defeating the Taliban and other insurgent groups, which have always been said to enjoy safe haven within Pakistan.

Since the global military mission declared an end to its combat mission in 2014, the Taliban have made steady gains.
