Trump tweetstorm slams Russian Federation investigation

Special counsel Robert Mueller is leading an investigation into collusion between Trump associates and Moscow Special counsel Robert Mueller is leading an investigation into collusion between Trump associates and Moscow

Comey testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee last week that he believed he was sacked to undermine the FBI investigation, and said the president told him to drop the investigation into former national security advisor Michael Flynn as part of the Russian Federation probe.

The senior Justice Department official with ultimate authority over the special counsel's probe of Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 election has privately acknowledged to colleagues that he may have to recuse himself from the matter, which he took charge of only after Attorney General Jeff Sessions' own recusal, sources tell ABC News.

The tweet, which seems to confirm that Trump himself is under investigation, appears to reference Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as "the man" investigating him.

Mr Mueller was appointed special counsel to investigate Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion by Mr Trump campaign associates with the Russians, but there has been no indication that Mr Mueller told Mr Trump to fire Mr Comey.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has privately indicated that he may need to recuse himself from the probe into Russia's influence on the 2016 United States election, which would make him the second top tier law enforcement official to do so.

In an interview with MSNBC host Lester Holt last month, Trump said he had already decided he would fire Comey before hearing any recommendations from Justice Department officials.

"If President Trump were to try to replicate [former President Richard] Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre by firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in addition to Mueller, Congress must unite to stop him - without respect to party, and for the sake of the nation", he said.

A close Trump associate said this week the president was considering firing Mueller, although the White House later denied it.

Trump's friend Newt Gingrich - who is out with a new book titled "Understanding Trump" - is among those raising questions about the "anti-Trump" focus of Mueller's investigation.

President Donald Trump says the economy is improving and job numbers are up, despite the "phony Witch Hunt" against him.

In a tweet yesterday, Trump appeared to confirm that that he was being investigated for firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

His aides scrambled in the wake of that tweet to make clear the President was simply saying he had read the reports that he was under investigation but had not been told it separately.

The attorney general was at a White House meeting when the notification came from Rosenstein, prompting the enraged President to scold the attorney general for the turn of events. Trump said last week he felt vindicated by Comey's June 8 testimony that he was not the subject of investigation while Comey headed the agency.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Mocsow's election-related hacking.

Some commentators, however, said Trump could be referring to special counsel Robert Mueller.

According to the Post, Trump has three ways of ousting Mueller.

Trump hadn't publicly admitted he was personally under investigation until now.
