North Korea detainee mourned at Ohio funeral

Francis Olson | 24 June, 2017, 22:09

Warmbier, 22, died in a U.S. hospital on Monday after North Korea released him for what it called humanitarian reasons.

Doctors there said Warmbier had suffered a severe neurological injury from an unknown cause. But it's unclear how he came to be in that state.

Maybe there's something going on with the translation here but the phrase "in his normal state of health indicators" makes it sound as if it's normal for a 22-year-old to be in a coma for a year.

His family and others have blamed North Korea for his condition.

North Korea has been in the news a lot lately following the death of Otto Warmbier.

Warmbier's parents said they believe their son was subjected to "awful, torturous mistreatment" by the North Korean regime.

Warmbier was detained in North Korea in January 2016 at the airport in Pyongyang after a short tour of the country.

Warmbier was returned to the United States last week in a coma. He was released a week later.

President Donald Trump slammed Warmbier's detention and eventual death as "a total disgrace". As the rogue regime repeatedly threatened the US and its regional allies, testing missiles at least nine times since Trump's election, the administration looked to China to help.

The casket of Otto Warmbier is carried to a hearse followed by his family and friends after a funeral service at Wyoming High School in Wyoming, Ohio, on June 22.

It demanded that South Korea return 12 restaurant workers who defected to the South previous year.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer did not have a specific answer when asked at Tuesday's press briefing how the administration would respond to Warmbier's death.

Fred Warmbier, the student's father, said the same thing Thursday: "Dennis Rodman had nothing to do with Otto".

They said he had tried to steal a propaganda banner kept in a staff section of the building.

North Korea claimed that the Obama administration never made an official request for the release of Warmbier on humanitarian grounds. "It's nearly just trying to reach out for sports and see if I can bring sports to North Korea". He told Strahan, "I was just so happy to see the kid released". His family blames the North Korean authorities for his death.

Dennis Rodman appears on "Good Morning America" on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Pyongyang's official Rodong Sinmun newspaper claimed Trump was mulling a pre-emptive strike on North Korea to divert attention from a domestic political crisis, Agence France-Presse reported.
