After hospital visit with Scalise, Ryan says he's doing well

Francis Olson | 25 June, 2017, 11:27

That good news comes just nine days after Scalise and three others were shot at a Republican congressional baseball practice in northern Virginia.

"Congressman Steve Scalise's continued good progress allowed him to be transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit on Thursday".

The Louisiana Republican has been undergoing treatment at a Washington, D.C., hospital since June 14, when a gunman opened fire on a GOP practice for the congressional baseball game.

Hodgkinson shot four people before U.S. Capitol Police officers took him down.

Dr. Jack Sava, the director of trauma at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, said last week that Scalise had "sustained a single rifle wound that entered in the area of the left hip".

He also extended the end-of-Ramadan Eid Al-Fitr holidays until July 9 for all public sector employees. That could become financially problematic for the kingdom in an era of lower-for-longer oil prices.

Scalise was updated to fair condition on Wednesday and "is beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation", the hospital said.

Scalise was in critical condition after being shot in the hip and receiving multiple surgeries. On Wednesday, Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner, who was shot in the ankle, threw out the first pitch of the Congressional Softball Game from a wheelchair.

WJLA reported in the Tweet that Mika, a Tyson Foods lobbyist, was visited in his hospital room by Jayson Werth, a star player for Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals.

Scalise has not been released from the hospital.
