Cosby jury still deadlocked after marathon deliberation

The jury in Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial declared Thursday that it was deadlocked after 30 hours of deliberations, but a judge ordered the panel to keep trying to reach a unanimous decision. If they still can not reach consensus, a hung jury will cause the Judge to declare a mistrial.
"In order to return a verdict in any charge", O'Neill reminded the jury, "you must agree unanimously on that specific charge".
The avalanche of allegations against Cosby, which have mushroomed since late 2014, have already ended the career and pulverized the reputation of a comedy legend who will mark his 80th birthday next month. After that, prosecutors could decide to retry the case down the road or abandon it.
The 79-year-old Cosby is facing more than 10-years behind bars if found guilty by a jury for three felony charges of second-degree aggravated indecent assault against then Temple University employee Andrea Constand.
The jury began deliberating Monday.
A handful of his accusers were in the courtroom when the deadlock was announced, and they were visibly emotional as they left the courtroom. "The jury can deliberate for however long they wish to deliberate". She is the only one who has brought him to trial. Their assertions span five decades and several had similarities: the accusers said the alleged assaults occurred in conjunction with Cosby's giving them pills.
Theyre conflicted about the inconsistencies in Ms. Constands testimony, spokesman Andrew Wyatt said. Each of these charges carries a maximum of ten years in prison, along with a $25,000 fine.
"It's obviously going to be hard after this many hours of deliberation", former prosecutor Dennis McAndrews, who has been monitoring the trial, said of the chance they reach a verdict.

The three charges accuse Cosby of assaulting Andrea Constand without her consent, assaulting her when she was unconscious and assaulting her using drugs to substantially impair her ability to consent.
On Wednesday afternoon, the jury requested to hear extended excerpts of Constand'stestimony about the night when she says Cosby drugged and molested her.
According to Mason, Constand said she had gone to Cosby's house after dinner in mid-January 2004. But in most of those cases, the statute of limitations had expired by the time the women came forward. The entertainer says they were lovers and their encounter was consensual.
Earlier Thursday, a handful of Cosby supporters called for the man once adored by millions as "America's Dad" to walk free, holding up posters with slogans such as "Free Mr Cosby Now" outside the court.
The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.
