Capito says she can't support GOP health care bill

From Birth To Death, Medicaid Affects The Lives Of Millions US Republican leaders work to buoy Senate healthcare bill

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delayed a vote on the Senate's replacement for Obamacare until after the July 4 recess.

Facing a revolt from both moderate and conservative factions of his party, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell canceled a vote on Trumpcare, which he previously insisted would occur this week.

The new proposal, which was crafted in secret by McConnell and GOP staffers, worries some conservative and moderate Republicans in the upper chamber - particularly because of the 22 million people it would strip insurance from over the next decade, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office.

Shelley Moore Capito announced Tuesday that she can't support the Senate's health care overhaul after Republican leaders postponed a vote until at least next month.

After meeting with President Donald Trump and other administration officials with fellow Republican senators at the White House, Hoeven elaborated on his position Tuesday in an interview. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, at noon Tuesday, a senior Senate aide said. Reconciliation does not allow for a filibuster, so a senator could not delay a vote on the bill indefinitely.

This all sets up yet another round of negotiations and maneuvers after the July 4 recess is over. It said that similar to the House bill, average premiums around the country would be higher over the next two years - including about 20 percent higher in 2018 than under Obama's statute - but lower beginning in 2020. A number of Republican senators made it clear they would not vote for the bill as it was written, one of them being Nevada's Dean Heller.

Corker also stated that it was "very wise" of McConnell to move the vote back.

Senate Passes New Russian Sanctions Bill That Would Curb Trump's Power
The legislation would also restrict the White House from easing sanctions in the future without congressional approval. Allow broad new sanctions on key sectors of Russia's economy, including mining, metals, shipping and railways.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated Monday federal Medicaid spending would drop by $772 billion over the next decade.

After the vote was delayed, three Republican senators - Jerry Moran of Kansas, Rob Portman of OH and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia - announced opposition to the current bill.

It's "a big complicated bill, they're hard to bring together and hard to pass", he added, describing Republicans as "optimistic that we're going to get a result that's better than the status quo".

So a bus shuttled GOPs from Capitol Hill to the White House for a pitch from President Trump.

"This is an acknowledgment that Republican senators really care about getting this right", he said. The bill would cut taxes, reduce the deficit and phase out the Medicaid expansion implemented by Barack Obama's health law.

McConnell and Senate GOP leaders haven't discussed possible changes with members concerned about some of the bill's provisions, two senators said. The bill also preserves some entitlements, scaring off Cruz and Paul who want a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act. But three GOP senators are threatening to vote against a procedural motion to begin debate, a vote expected Wednesday.
