Daniel Ricciardo takes first place at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

5 things we learned from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton wants to 'win the right way' after Vettel controversy

Niki Lauda described Sebastian Vettel as "crazy" for hitting Lewis Hamilton during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and says deliberately making contact with a vehicle is the worst thing a driver can do.

Hamilton finished fifth, one place behind Vettel, and is now 14 points behind him in the title race after eight of this year's 20 races.

Vettel was penalised by the race stewards.

Both Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel held first and second position for the first half of the race, but after a penalty for Vettel and a malfunction with Hamilton's vehicle, Ricciardo was able to push past the other racers and claim his fifth Grand Prix victory.

During one of the many times when the safety auto was being used, Vettel went on to ram into Hamilton from behind and then pulled alongside the Brit and swerved into him, banging wheels.

"Lewis will hit him one day, I think", said Lauda.

After the race, Hamilton accused Vettel of unsafe driving and the 32-year-old has now insisted his title rival's actions on Sunday show the pressure he is under to win the Championship.

Vettel said he needed to talk to Hamilton about the incident, but the Briton dismissed the request.

"Nothing happened, did it?" I'm sure he didn't do it on goal but for sure it was not the right move. I don't think that was his intention (to damage my car) because he's also risking damage to his vehicle, and his race is over.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was won by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, his first race victory of the year.

"If he wants to prove that he's a man we should do it out of the auto face to face." .

Stroll thereby claimed his first podium finish after unlikely setbacks had hit fourth-placed world championship leader Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari and three-time champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. If I was Lewis, I would speak to Sebastian and ask him what is wrong.

It was described as "potentially dangerous" driving and in addition to the time penalty in the race he was also given three penalty points on his racing licence, taking him to a total of nine. "I think I will do that just with him and then we will clear it and move on".

Ferrari Team Principal Arrivabene says the team will look into what happened in Azerbaijan but will come back fighting in the Austrian Grand Prix in two weeks time.

"The sport needs the rivalry", Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said. I don't have a radio to him. "Once I got the lead, I knew if I kept that rhythm it was enough to win". Mercedes non-executive director and retired triple champion Niki Lauda said he had never seen anything like it. "Vettel is a decent guy normally". "I didn't run into the back of him on goal".

"All I'm thinking of is getting my head together and I want to kill it in the last 12 races, I want to win the next 12 races".
