Ranchi: In yet another incidence related to mob violence, Usman Ansari a native of Jharkhand was here on Tuesday beaten up and part of his house set on fire by a mob after a dead cow was reportedly found outside his house in a village under Deori police station area of Giridih district, said the media.

The man was rescued by police from the marauding mob and admitted him to a local hospital, but was later shifted to another hospital in Dhanbad owing to the seriousness of his injuries, they said.

"The police struggled for more than two hours to rescue Ansari and his family members", said Jharkhand Police Spokesperson and ADG (Operations) RK Mullik.

One person named Krishna Pandit when the police fired several rounds in the air to disperse the mob.

On Tuesday afternoon, villagers in Bariabad, which is around 250km from the state capital Ranchi, found a carcass that was missing its head and assumed that Ansari had slaughtered the cow, police said. Around 50 policemen were were also injured in the stone-pelting. However, the situation is now under control and the victim Ansari is being treated a hospital in Dhanbad.

Six people have been detained, Jharkhand Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Ashish Batra told news agency Press Trust of India. About 200 security personnel have been deployed in the village.

And in April, a Muslim dairy farmer was lynched in the western state of Rajasthan by cow vigilantes for allegedly smuggling cows.
