Jon Ossoff Has 'Lessons For Democrats' on How To Lose Elections

In the wake of Jon Ossoff's special election loss a week ago calls began again within some corners of the Democratic caucus that it was time for Nancy Pelosi to step aside as the highest ranking House Democrat Jon Ossoff Has 'Lessons For Democrats' on How To Lose Elections

In the six months since Donald Trump has become president, Democrats have offered no ideas, no strategy, and no message beyond opposing Trump.

Despite the attacks on his area of residence - slightly outside the district, to make life easier for a fiance finishing medical training - Ossoff argued that most Republican attacks fell flat. Yes, we are the minority party in Congress and our legislation won't pass, but the optics of offering solutions are important, and so too are the optics of not offering solutions. Gerrymandering GOP officials across the country have left so few districts in play that to succeed, Democrats must win over Republicans in places like Kansas' 3rd District, which is now represented by Kevin Yoder. The top three positions are filled by people in their 70s.

The group says that it will direct its spending in 2018 towards highlighting Pelosi's "toxic agenda" in districts that Democrats are hoping to flip.

Pelosi has fought back tenaciously, saying she isn't going anywhere, and she has a majority of supporters in her caucus, such as Tampa U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, who continues to stand by her despite the growing criticism of her tenure.

In a memo to interested parties (with the subject line #StandWithPelosi) on Tuesday, CLF executive director Corry Bliss released polling from 11 GOP-held districts that showed Pelosi with higher unfavorable numbers than favorable numbers.

Karen Handel won the 6th District vote by about 4 points.

Finally, First Financial Equity Corporation bought a new position in Micron Technology during the first quarter worth $243,000. Also, Director Mercedes Johnson sold 27,242 shares of the business's stock in a transaction on Friday, April 28th.

The Republicans aren't kidding when they say they are thrilled to have Pelosi as the opposition leader.

So the case against Pelosi's continued leadership is that she is such a handy demon to tie every Democratic candidate to, and the Republican base will respond in Pavlovian fashion by salivating with the urge to bite any Democratic candidate's head off. Pelosi is not bigger than the party, and she has had her shot. Such is the power of negative advertising in politics.

Ossoff has yet to decide whether to run again next year, and other Democrats eyeing the race are waiting for his decision.

It is true that Ellison would have been a flawed choice for party chairman given his track record on Israel, but the perception of a rigged party persists.

Pelosi is now virtually guaranteed to go out on her own terms - whatever and whenever she decides those will be. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich seems to know her value when it comes to winning elections, so does President Trump. "I'm experienced in terms of knowing the institutional memory of the Congress". "It really did matter to people that they would have a congressman that was part of this district". But there is a new move on to inject some young voices into the party and begin to groom a new crop of leaders. And their voices got much more influential even as the Democratic party was being decimated nationally.
