Nintendo's SNES Classic won't be immediately sold out like NES Classic

Nintendo didn't give exact numbers for the units it expects to ship when the SNES Classic Edition launches on September 29 for $79 (about £62, AU$104), but we imagine the promise of more systems will appease retro gamers who might've been burned by the woefully under-supplied and over-demanded NES Classic Edition.

Much like how they've said that the discontinuation of the NES Classic Edition was due to their lack of "unlimited resources", Nintendo is once again singing the same tune.

Nintendo has announced the release of a throwback console that will have fans on the edge of their seats. The marketing ploy was supposedly meant to drum up publicity for the Japanese company, which launched its flagship new console, the Nintendo Switch, earlier this year.

The SNES Classic Edition will feature 21 games from the legendary console including Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III, EarthBound, and Street Fighter II Turbo, among others. It received an enthusiastic response, selling about 2.3 million units in Japan, Australia, Europe and the United States by March and its production was temporarily halted in April.

The company has given a date for the release of this console but it's still not clear if Nintendo intends to keep producing the SNES consoles even after the end of 2017.

"Our long-term efforts are focused on delivering great games for the Nintendo Switch system and continuing to build momentum for that platform, as well as serving the more than 63 million owners of Nintendo 3DS family systems". Prices from the United Kingdom states that the console will set you back £79.99 (~S$124).

Sega, whose Megadrive console competed fiercely with the SNES in the Nineties, recently said it would re-release a huge library of games as part of a Netflix-style scheme.
