Operations at one of three terminals at India's largest container port JNPT, near the commercial hub of Mumbai, have been disrupted by the global ransomware attack, the port said on Wednesday.

Apart from its terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Pipavav in Maharshtra and a port in Gujarat, two APM facilities in the country - a container depot in Dadri and a container freight station - were affected in the global malware attack.

By a statement, Danish shipping AP Moller-Maersk, which operates a JNPT section, said the malware caused flaws in its computer system last night. When asked about the impact of the malware attack, Brijesh Singh, Maharashtra state cyber cell chief, said, "The state government's departments such as Customs, Excise etc are not affected in this attack".

An official says operations at a terminal at India's busiest container port have been stalled by the malicious software that has crippled computers globally. "They are trying to work manually".

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the attack "again proves the Russian thesis that such a threat requires cooperation on the global level".

The group's statement read, "We are responding to the situation to contain and limit the impact and uphold operations". The attack is being carried out by the Petya virus, with users being told to pay $300 in cryptocurrency per infected computer to unlock their systems.

APM Terminals is a subsidiary of shipping giant Maersk, which has confirmed that it is suffering from a cyber attack.

Trial date set for California suit against Cosby
Share with Us - We'd love to hear eyewitness accounts, the history behind an article, and smart, constructive criticism. Judge Craig Karlan on Tuesday set July 30, 2018, as the trial date for Huth's lawsuit.

"Right now, we understand that it is a global issue at a group level where 75 ports have been affected".

The Kremlin says that a ransomware attack that has affected computers across the world highlights the need for close worldwide cooperation in fighting cybercrime.

Several multinational companies said they were targeted, including U.S. pharmaceutical giant Merck, Russian state oil giant Rosneft, British advertising giant WPP and the French industrial group Saint-Gobain.

The IT team of AP Moller-Maersk together with the IT companies in the country are working to restore the sytems and resume cargo operations, it said.

"It has been informed by the private terminal operator that this disruption is a outcome of a worldwide disruption being faced by them because of a cyber attack", it added.

Prasad said the government is keeping close watch on the issue.

The Ministry said the JNPT was taking steps to ensure minimum disturbance to trade, transporters and local citizens.
