Retracted CNN story a boon for president at war with media

Kenny Thornton | 28 June, 2017, 22:58

Conservative filmmaker and activist James O'Keefe released his latest undercover sting video featuring CNN Health Supervising Producer John Bonifield criticizing the network's coverage of President Donald Trump.

Bonifield added that the Russian Federation story was "good for business".

Bonifield also acknowledged: "I haven't seen any good enough evidence to show that the President committed a crime". So, I just feel like they don't have it but they want to keep digging.

“I think the President is probably right to say, like, look, you are witch-hunting me, ” Bonifield admits. "You have no real proof, you have no smoking gun".

Popular Video This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert.

Those who resigned were past Pulitzer Prize finalist, Thomas Frank; Lex Haris, veteran editor at the network, and Eric Lichtblau, who was also a Pulitzer nominee.

A CNN insider told the Post staffers are furious at "having lost the moral high ground because of this story".

He then went on to assume that things were "settled" because three CNN employees resigned and Scaramucci accepted the network's apology and said he was "moving on".

In Tuesday's press briefing, the first on-camera briefing in a week, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders used the lectern at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to attack CNN for purveying fake news and what she called the "Trump-Russia hoax".

Bonifield goes on to say the Russian Federation narrative is "good for business" and that for CNN the driving factor is ratings.

The report also said that two Democratic senators wanted to know whether Scaramucci had indicated in the meeting whether sanctions against Russian Federation would be lifted, a decision that could impact the investment fund.

"I mean, it's mostly bullshit right now", Bonifield says. "And I think if that is the place that certain outlets are going, particularly for the objective of spiking ratings, and if that's coming directly from the top, I think that's even more scary and certainly more disgraceful.".

CNN defended Bonifield in a statement. Conservative provocateur James O'Keefe piled on by releasing a video with a CNN producer caught on camera talking about the network's Russian Federation coverage being ratings-driven.

"Zucker stressed that this issue was a "lapse in editorial standards" and said it was a lesson to all reporters and editors to continue to strive for strong, accurate reporting", one source said, while another noted the worries about the proposed merger.
