The player has been heavily linked with Everton and Leicester City, and both clubs have reportedly had a £40m bid turned down by Swansea, who are holding out for £50m.

Everton recently submitted an offer of around £40 million, which Swansea were quick to reject.

Sigurdsson, who has three years left on his contract, did not travel to the U.S. for the Swans' pre-season tour.

Everton's attempts to secure Gylfi Sigurdsson's signature have been dealt a blow after Swansea rejected their opening £40m offer for their club captain.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT that Gylfi Sigurdsson would be a good signing for Everton.

He featured for the club in their 1-0 friendly defeat against Barnet on Wednesday.

NDA's presidential nominee Kovind to visit Gujarat tomorrow

"We have the ultimate respect for Gylfi as a person and a player and we are optimistic that he will reconsider his decision and join his team-mates", said the American businessmen.

"We had that situation with Jack Cork [who joined Burnley on Tuesday]".

After an admission from the manager Paul Clement a couple of days ago that the player could be sold, but only if the team's £50m valuation was met, the player pulled out of the Swans preseason US tour at the last minute.

However, the news coming out of the club today suggests that the player is interested in making a move. That might end up being the case with Gylfi.

Only two other players, Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, brought more goals and assists to their teams. "We don't know yet".

Sigurdsson, whose contract runs to 2020, has been at Swansea on a permanent basis since 2014 after a disappointing two-year spell at Tottenham, who bought him from German outfit Hoffenheim for almost £9m.
