Philippe Coutinho reportedly hands in transfer request at Liverpool after Barcelona bids

Liverpool have rejected Philippe Coutinho's transfer request as he seeks to push for a move to Barcelona.

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has reportedly launched an official transfer request following the statement of club owners, Fenway Sports Group, that he is not for sale, as they rebuffed Barcelona's second bid for the Brazilian superstar.

But the news of his transfer request will throw the Reds boss' plans for the coming season into disarray given his status at the club.

Many Liverpool fans are anxious their club have done relatively little in the transfer market, signing only three players, and so far failing to land their two most significant targets - RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita and Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

Amid the ongoing efforts from Barcelona to sign the 25-year-old, FSG decided the time was right to make a public declaration.

It was furthered with FSG's definitive position that "no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool football club when the summer window closes".

LIVERPOOL will rebuff any bids for Philippe Coutinho in this transfer window, the club's American owners said on Friday, in the latest blow to Barcelona in its attempts to replace Neymar.

Neil Walker drove in a run and also scored a run on Cespedes' single in the fifth, though it was ruled an unearned run. Philadelphia's Odubel Herrera extended his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games with a first-inning double.

But there are conflicting reports over Coutinho's transfer request, with a number of reliable Liverpool sources rubbishing Sky's report.

"Phil is not available for us and that for me is the bigger issue", Klopp said. "I have nothing to say about this".

"Talking in general, I had to sell a lot of players in my managerial career".

Coutinho will nonetheless be missing from the Watford match with a back problem that could also rule him out of the first leg of a Champions League qualifying play-off away to German club Hoffenheim on Tuesday.

"I have said what the club's decision is about this and now you can read it - that is maybe the only difference".

The start of any season and being at home is crucial. I don't know if it was a reaction to the club coming out and making a statement earlier in the day.

"For Barcelona, it's an important financial income that allows them to breathe much easier and also to try new signings". It's how we do it when we want to bring players in.
