
A bullet train named Fuxing ("Rejuvenation"), which will travel at the new high speed, left Beijing South station at 9am for Shanghai.
The new train completes the 1,200-kilometer journey in just under four-and-a-half hours.
Qi Yanhui, Deputy Director of China Railway's Science and Technology Department, said the technology used for developing the train could also be adapted for railway products overseas.
The decision to increase the speed means that China once again has the world's fastest train service. Forty people were killed and over 190 injured when two high-speed trains travelling on the Yongtaiwen railway line collided on a viaduct in the suburbs of Wenzhou, Zhejiang province.

Now the country can design and manufacture the system all on its own and it has held a full range of intellectual property rights for making Fuxing.
